Testing and analyses performed to date indicate this new fuel clad material will safely retain the uranium fuel even under high temperature accident conditions, and will last longer in reactor service, thus enabling a large increase in the energy obtained from uranium, and reducing the cost of nuclear operations. Importantly, it will also reduce the amount of spent fuel that must be stored for disposal, or recycled. Because of its high temperature resistance, as compared to zircaloy, this new clad material can operate at higher power densities, further improving the economics of nuclear power. CTP has established a program of manufacturing development and testing leading to commercialization of our triplex cladding within 10 years.
