Dr. Nixon is currently a Technical Specialist at Rolls-Royce Corporation in Indianapolis, Indiana. In his current role, he serves as a technical lead for the development and implementation of ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) into Rolls-Royce’s turbine engine components. He has over 30 years of industrial experience in the development and characterization of brittle matrix composite materials including CMCs and Carbon-Carbon (C/C) composites. He spent his first 26 years working for Goodrich Corp on the development of C/C and CMC materials for use primarily for aircraft brake friction materials moving from an Advanced Development Engineer to the role as an R&D Manager. In 2014, he moved to Rolls-Royce serving as both a Technical Resource Manager and a Technical Specialist. His experience is focused on C/C and CMC processing development, material characterization and performance testing.

 

Dr. Nixon received his B.Sc. (1985) and M.Sc. (1987) in Ceramic Engineering from The Ohio State University and his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering (2000) from Case Western Reserve University. He currently holds four US patents with three of those being CMC related.
