Ceramics have been an important component of the Mines education for 150 years, and ceramics research came into its own on campus starting in 1988 with the industry-supported founding of the Colorado Center for Advanced Ceramics (CCAC), which currently hosts 10 full time faculty and their students working across all areas of ceramics. The growing need for hands-on education of ceramic engineers prompted the launch of a new Ceramic Engineering BS degree in Fall 2023.
