CMH-17 is offering a Tutorial on composite material certification with an emphasis on CMC materials on Thursday, January 31. There is no fee to attend the FAA Composite Certification Tutorial. It will be instructed by Cindy Ashforth, FAA Senior Technical Specialist for Advanced Composite Materials, and will cover the basics of FAA certification for design, production, and airworthiness approvals and requirements relevant to composite materials and structures. It will include a detailed review of the content in FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 20-107B, with an emphasis on how the principles and concepts in that AC can be extended to CMCs and engine applications.
The tutorial will cover: Certification Basics - Composite Technical Challenges - Material and Process Control - Static Strength Substantiation - Fatigue and Damage Tolerance - Other Requirements. The Tutorial will run from 8:00am to 3:30pm with lunch served during the CMH-17 CMC Working Group meetings from 12:00pm to 1:30pm.
