Alfred University

Since its inception in 1900, the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University has attracted renowned artists and scientists as faculty in ceramics, glass, and other materials, while producing world-class alumni in ceramic engineering. Alfred’s Inamori School of Engineering is one of only two institutions in the US that offers degrees in glass science. Alfred also offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Biomaterials Engineering (BS and MS), Ceramic Engineering (BS through PhD), Glass Science Engineering (BS through PhD), and Materials Science and Engineering (BS through PhD). Through its Center for Advanced Ceramic Technology (CACT), Alfred supports the technical ceramics and glass sectors by performing short-term analytical services, service agreements, equipment lending agreements, sponsored research, internships, and workforce development programming including industry short courses. CACT also provides additional support to NYS-based firms by providing cost-share to either reduce the cost of working with AU, or to extend a budget in order to achieve additional results. The CACT also supports AU’s other research centers including the Center for High Temperature Characterization (CHTC), Ceramic Research, Education and Technology Enterprise (CREATE) Center, and the Center for Glass Innovation (CGI).
